#TalkToAMuslim: Gauahar Khan Joins Movement Against Hate, Swara Bhasker Supports Her

Since last night, #TalkToAMuslim has been trending on Twitter. The trend was initiated to help people overcome 'perceived' misconceptions about the Muslim community by engaging in a dialogue.

Gauahar Khan extended her support to the movement by posting a series of tweets. She began by writing, “It’s so sad that @BJP4India political agenda is only n only against Muslims in this country! A humble request to@PMOIndia to lead this country with love for all its citizens!why should every headline be only pitting us against each other! #unityIndiversity remember???”

Another tweet read, “Mera desh ,mera mulk , mera yeh watan!! Shaanti ka, unnati ka, pyaar ka chaman!! Chalo isse barkaraar rakhein .... #stopDividingUs.”

She further wrote, “#TalkToAMuslim seriously didn’t think a day would come where talking to a muslim leader or a commoner would question ur patriotism or ur belief in ur own faith!!by land I am a Hindu ,by faith I am a Muslim and by heart n soul INDIAN is my identity !!! #killThehate #spreadlove.”

It was on this tweet that Swara Bhasker came out in support of Gauahar and wrote, “Gauahar this country is yours as much as mine. Nuff said! #TalkToAMuslim,” to which the latter said, “Chodho kal ki baatein , kal ki baat purani! Naye daur se likhenge hum milkar nayi kahaaani, HUM Hindustani HUM Hindustani@ReallySwara.”

It started when Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) targeted the opposition leader Rahul Gandhi for calling Congress a "Muslim party," during a meeting with Muslims leaders and activists. BJP accused Gandhi of trying to get minority votes ahead of the 2019 national election.

The Congress leader rubbished the claims but the politics over the Hindu-Muslim divide in led to the hashtag #TalktoAMuslim.
